Department of Informatics was founded under the decision of Council of Ministers on June 17, 1997 as a rectorate affiliated unit.
The head of the department is Assist. Prof. Dr. Müge Adnan.
The main aim of the department is to offer ‘Basic Information Technology Usage’ Course to the first-year students of all faculties and vocational schools in the first semester. Informatics is an interdisciplinary field that combines computer, communication, information, and management. It helps connect theory and practice in many disciplines. The Department of Informatics is responsible for the Information Technologies education of every student within the university and also for the training of instructors. There are six active laboratories carried out with the aim of improving the quality of the courses within educational facilities. All laboratories are equipped totally with 210 computers.
Compulsory Computer Course offered by the Department of Informatics is provided through distance education system. Having a computer is enough to follow the courses carried out through Internet-based distance education system. The students who have a personal computer can follow online courses at home and watch the missed lessons.
Internet access is available at the laboratories and classrooms for those who do not have personal computer in order to follow online courses.
